Can a “masked” man be identified as an actual person and charged with murder – without explaining how the identification of the person was made – if the charging documents never state that anybody saw his face?
The professional behavior of U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson in Minnesota has come under scrutiny after Thompson, during a press conference on June 16, 2025, announced Vance Boelter has been federally charged with stalking and murder – acts Thompson said Boelter committed while wearing a “mask”.
The controversy about the charges surrounds the fact that Thompson does not ever seem to explain how he identified the masked man as being that of “Vance Boelter”.
