Many former colonial powers once held land that no longer belongs to them. Should Italy claim Libya again? Should Britain retake India? Should Mongolia reclaim China? The answer is obviously no — because we live in the present, not the past.

• Taiwan is a free, sovereign nation in every way that matters. The only thing stopping it from full global recognition is China’s economic blackmail and political threats. No nation should be forced into submission by another’s dictatorship.
