Diplomacy Is Out The Window: Iran To Speak At UN General Assembly

Iran has been in the news for the longest time now, with event after event of sanctions, strikes, back and forths with Trump, missiles, uranium, you name it. Now, Iran’s foreign minister has said that diplomacy with the US is off the table as the new sanctions on Iran’s Central Bank were placed. “I think President Trump knowingly or unknowingly on Friday closed the door to negotiations,” Zarif said. Now, with the UN General Assembly about to take place, President Rouhani plans to propose what he calls the ‘Coalition of Hope’ to the assembly in the hopes to remove the US from the Persian Gulf.

“The security of the Persian Gulf, the strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman is indigenous,” President Rouhani said at an extensive military parade marking the 39th anniversary of the Iran-Iraq war. “Foreign forces could cause problems and insecurity for our nation and region,” he added.

However, is sympathy for Iran over? As they’ve been pushing buttons with many countries. They just recently released a British ship they had detained for two months, their spat with the US has caused discord and worry worldwide, but they expect help to fix their failing economy from “economic terrorism”. With all this going on, President Trump is still saying ‘everything’s fine’, but from the above report of diplomacy being gone, is this really the case?

Asked about Rouhani’s plan on Sunday, Trump said he was open to hearing it. “I’m always open,” he said. “We’re doing our own thing with Iran,” the president added, and claimed “tremendous progress” has been made. He has sought to play down the attacks on Saudi oil installations, claiming that the US is no longer dependent on oil from the Gulf.
