In a video posted on The Black History School, we learn more about Like Roosevelt, President William Howard Taft regularly met with Booker T. Washington, but he was not as supportive of civil rights. He perceived Blacks as inferior citizens. Taft removed any Black officials from office in southern states and opposed Blacks seeking higher education. According to Taft, Blacks were only capable of working industrial jobs. His attitude hindered the progress that the Republican party had made in the Black community. During his presidency, Blacks started to move towards the Democratic Party.
