The Way Too Soon 2020 Mock MLB Draft – Top 10

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Okay, okay, I know. We’re getting ahead of ourselves. But if you thought the 2019 Draft Class was loaded, wait until you see the 2020 class. A better mix of hitters and pitchers. From the next Clayton Kershaw to a Bryce Harper throwback, this draft has a little bit of everything.

The Draft order below is based solely on standings through 6/12/2019. Oddly enough, four of the first five picks belong to the same exact teams that held them in this year. If it plays out that way, I doubt it, but we’ll see.

Top 10 MLB Draft 2020

  1. BALTIMORE ORIOLES: Emerson Hancock, RHP, Georgia

Hancock is one of the most dominant pitchers in the SEC. If he were available for selection in this year’s draft, he might’ve contended Adley Rustchman for the number one pick. His approach and makeup is eerily similar to Clayton Kershaw.

2. KANSAS CITY ROYALS: Spencer Torkelson, 1B, Arizona State

Torkelson is 2020’s version of Andrew Vaughn and JJ Bleday rolled into one. If he can produce the same power he brought into his junior year, he could potentially be the number one pick.

3. TORONTO BLUE JAYS: JT Ginn, RHP, Mississippi State

Mississippi State rode the back of Ginn all the way to the College World series. His slider is absolutely sick, and could be better than any pitcher’s in this class.

4. MIAMI MARLINS: Austin Martin, 3B/2B, Vanderbilt

Slowly but surely the Marlins are building back their farm system. After this past year’s draft it’s starting to take shape, and we’re able to see what direction they’re taking. Many might mock an outfielder here but they need corner infielders more. Martin is of championship caliber and his developing power is hard to pass up.

5. DETROIT TIGERS: Blaze Jordan, 1B/3B, DeSoto Central HS (MS)

Jordan has had the Bryce Harper comparisons since he was 12-years-old. It’s very hard to mock any high-schooler this high but the ceiling Jordan has could make him a super star before he gets to the majors. Much like they did with the Riley Greene pick this year, regardless of Jordan’s true position and questions of his glove, his hitting ability is more valuable to the Tigers.

6. SEATTLE MARINERS: Peter Crow-Armstrong, OF, Harvard-Westlake HS (CA)

Again, a hard choice to put a high school player in the top-10, but Crow-Armstrong is an all-around talent. Bats left, throws left and has a 6’1″ frame that should add power, on top of his knack for smacking line drives currently. Has plus-plus speed and great instincts in center.

7. SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS: Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M

I can’t see the Giants taking position players back-to-back-to-back years in the first round. Especially since they need more arms on the farm. Lacy’s got four pitches and works them brilliantly, thus far, and his strikeout rate this past season was 13.2 per innings pitched.

8. CINCINNATI REDS: Dylan Crews, OF, Lake Mary HS (FL)

Perfect Game has rated Crews as the number two high school player for 2020. The Florida native has some pop in his bat and can find the barrel to the ball seamlessly. He’s got his heart set on LSU, so if he’s not selected in the top-25, he could forgo the pros and head straight to Baton Rouge.

9. WASHINGTON NATIONALS: Cole Wilcox, RHP, Georgia

Wilcox might take a backseat to teammate Hancock but his skillset shouldn’t be overlooked. They’re not that far apart in projectability. Wilcox can touch 98 with his fastball. He was also projected as a first-round talent out of high school in 2018.

10. PITTSBURGH PIRATES: Patrick Baily, C, NC State

Hard to say if he’ll project into a Rutschman-type of player but it’s exciting to make the comparison. A switch-hitting catcher with solid defensive skills, he’s hitting marks get him in the talks of being a top-10 pick. If he continues his plate approach into next season, he could slip into the top-five.
