speaking in tongues in the bible means speaking another language of another country. look up tongues in the strong’s concordance. praying in tongues is the same. you did know that, right?
No, I didn’t know that, because that’s not what my Bible says. The Apostle Paul contradicts what you claim, but I guess you didn’t know that. When someone speaks/prays in tongues, they are not speaking to other humans, they are speaking directly to God in a spiritual language (see verse 2 below). Speaking in tongues is the language of angels (see 1 Corinthians 13:1). Speaking in tongues is praying in the Spirit. Speaking in tongues is edifying to the person themselves, but not to others (see verse 4 below).
So let everyone read the Scriptures for themselves so they can see whose claims are correct. Here is chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians, which talks about speaking in tongues:
1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

When you pray in tongues, you are bypassing your mind and are praying with your spirit. You are speaking of spiritual things from your spirit to God’s Spirit. In this direct communication between your spirit and the Spirit of God, you are praying about things your mind may not even know or would not know how to verbalize, for you are praying about the deep things of God:
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

I would encourage any believer who does not speak in tongues to not listen to the naysayers who believe not the Word, but listen to what Paul said and seek out this precious gift from our heavenly Father.

If you look at the context of chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians, the subject Paul is talking about is an “unknown tongue” (see verse 2). That is what I am addressing. A language of a nation is not an “unknown tongue”. I made a mistake in that I should have mentioned that speaking a foreign language that you don’t know, like they did in Acts 2:11, is a subset of speaking in tongues. I was focusing on 1 Corinthians where Paul was talking about the language of angels (see 1 Corinthians 13:1), which is a spiritual language. That is what Paul is talking about in chapter 14. What Truthseeker calls gibberish, Paul calls the language of angels, speaking unto God, speaking mysteries. This is what I am referring to. So I suppose you yourself do not speak in tongues, for you would identify with what Paul is talking about here. So I would encourage you to seek out this precious gift of the Spirit. It truly is edifying as Paul says (see 1 Corinthians 14:4). It draws you into the deeper things of the Spirit. So whether you listen to the link I provided above, or seek out some other teaching, I would encourage you to seek out this wondrous mystery. Grace and peace unto you and all who seek after our heavenly Father.

When you say “give Him your all” that is a true statement, what I would add is all we have is our Will, we must surrender our will to HIS WILL completely as did Jesus Christ.
And you are correct about tongues, many think after being given the Holy Spirit one must speak in gibberish not even knowing what you are saying.

dear Awabnavi, there are certain steps you do biblically to receive His Qodesh Spirit. mainly around John 14 through 16. some tips: find out what sin is, repent, be immersed in the right name, follow His commandments, pray unceasingly to have a good relationship with Our Creator. You will feel and hear His Spirit in you. seriously. the Spirit mostly talks to us in bible verses. even verses you have never heard before. it’s happened to me. Ephesian 6 tells us of the armor of Yahuah. very important. it says the Spirit is the Word of God. if i am sinning, a pressure feeling, or a warning feeling will go off in my head. if someone else is doing sin, i am warned. it’s just amazing, Awabnavi. dear am 123, i thank you for your kind reply. i type under Love Ya on my computer, but mostly i use my husband’s computer and he wants to be named Anonymous. i will go and read 1 Cor. 13 and 14. i just love reading that bible anyway. i am open to anyone’s beliefs. i may have wrong thinking. i would want to be told that. i appreciate that from you. i don’t want to look up verses today, but i do believe the Spirit talks to the Father for us in words we don’t even realize. the Spirit knows what we need even more than we know. it’s a beautiful connection to Our Creator. what’s funny is sometimes i’ll pray for something, and my prayers are answered, but just not the way i thought things would go. like i wanted my family to be less messy. they, all of a sudden, cleaned out the basement, had a rummage sale, told me my stuff needs to go too, threw away my stuff or sold it. i did have too much stuff, but it was hard to part with. ha ha. geeezzz. it was like, be-careful what you pray for.

My sister talks in tongues, it sounds like a language, but she has no clue what she is saying.
She can speak at any time any place.
You know at one time she thought it was not of God, but now after she has expanded her mind through tongues she has her own church, she no longer even has to prepare for a 30 or 45 minute sermon, it just comes out.
One time when she was talking in tongues lips appeared on the wall and told her she was special.
After that event she did not even have to look up scriptures in the Bible she could repeat them by heart.
I have not much to do with her any longer I have no interest in demons at all, but if you want to expand your self — speaking in tongues is a good way to begin. You might even end up with your own church and lips telling you you are special.

There are times when things are so internalized in us and perhaps problems are so perplexing that we don’t know how to pray about it. But God is good, and He has given us a way to pray in these situations. As Paul said above in Romans, the Holy Spirit helps us and intercedes through us and for us. So do yourself a favor Love Ya and learn what a friend and what a Helper you have in the Holy Spirit. The more you fellowship and work with the Holy Spirit, the more He will work with you and for you. He will orchestrate things in your life. Like what you described about how you prayed for your family to be less messy. It was the Holy Spirit that orchestrated them cleaning up the basement and so forth. When you recognize the finger of God doing things in your life, thank Him and praise Him for it! Learn to give thanks for all the blessings in your life, be cognizant of them all the time, giving thanks for them. And trust in Him to do these things. O how it pleases our Father when you trust in Him and give Him thanksgiving!
And so again, I urge you to seek out this most precious gift of the Holy Spirit. And be not wary of speaking in tongues, for God tells us to ask Him for it, and that He is good and will not give us something that is hurtful:
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

I must say that I am pleasingly surprised to see someone on the internet that has a clue about truths in the scriptures. It’s pretty rare to find someone who is actually interested in the truth about what they say, rather than the vomit that is spewed forth by EVERY sect of Christianity, and everyone I see on the internet as a whole.
