Part 1

 

What is Mystery, Babylon?  The name is:  Mystery, Babylon the Great, or more correctly, Babylon the Great, a Mystery.  Some view it as a world-wide pagan religious system with the Roman Catholic Church having top honors.  A recent trend, led by Joel Richardson, is to consider Islam as the mystery complete with a Muslim antichrist.

 

The Catholic Church has been a popular favorite since the Reformation, with the Pope as the false prophet and some Roman leader as the antichrist.  The book, The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop portrays the church as the worship of Nimrod and his wife.  Hislop may have a good concept but he is missing the end-times point.

 

Others view it as a global financial system consisting of banks, corporations, and precious metals exchanges.  Anyone living in 2014 onward, suspects that the world is dominated by financial systems pursuing a one-world government and various internet news stories are constantly prophesying a coming financial destruction.

 

Babylon the Great is a city.  It is referred to as a city eight times in the book of the Revelation.  It is not:  a country; a church system; or a financial system. Several cities have been proposed over the years as a candidate such as:  Rome and/or the Vatican City; an actual rebuilt Babylon; London; New York City; and various Arab cities.  Rome and/or the Vatican city is the historical favorite; London is a minor choice due to the location of its banking section called the City of London which is an independent area similar to Vatican city within London; a rebuilt Babylon is probably out of the question due to the depleted uranium radiation from two Gulf wars; Mecca and other Arab cities have recently been somewhat popular.

 

Today, the city receiving a high amount of Babylon reputation is New York City.  Rick Coombes has spent a large part of his lifetime compiling evidence that the United States, particularly New York City, is that city of mystery.  He has written a book based on his research entitled America the Babylon.  An internet search will show that other commentators are convinced of Coombes’ deductions.  New York is a good choice if viewing the Babylon characteristics as the world is presently.  However, Mystery, Babylon is a city existing during the end-times when the entire world is under the rulership of the antichrist (beast).

 

Coombes, Richardson, and others of similar mindset, are researching various cities and countries and compiling facts and figures based on the world as it stands today, not what the world will be like during the end-times under the rule of the antichrist (beast), as described by sections of the books of Daniel and the Revelation.  The world will be vastly different in the near future, not anything like it has been in history.  For confirmation read Daniel chapters 7,9, 11, 12 and Revelation chapters 13, 17, and 18.

 

Mystery, Babylon the Great is the city of Jerusalem of the end-times.  Where will the antichrist (beast) setup the capital of the world?  What city is called a harlot in scripture?  Where will the antichrist (beast) be worshipped as a messiah?  Where will the Abomination of Desolation be placed?  Where were all the prophets killed?  Where was Jesus crucified?  The answer is Jerusalem.
