How Chinese New Year has influenced the sales in Dubai Online Shopping Markets Tremendously

However, due to the Chinese New Year, the trading market of Dubai had been influenced.

As Chinese New Year is the holiday season for most of the Chinese retailers, there is always a great pause in the retail sales. In Dubai, the Chinese traders have been on leave during the month of February. The new celebrations were big this year.

The New Year holidays are large as compared to the Christmas holidays. China being the second largest economy of the world has its own weekly celebrations that carry on at its peak. When the New Year started, many retailers went on holidays to visit China and spend the time with their loved ones. During this pause, the sales in Dubai decreased.

Although China is not the only retailer that trades in the market but over the past few years, many Chinese customers have become a promising part of the Dubai market. The stats of 2014 show that Abu Dhabi received 120,350 visitors. This figure was more than the number of visitors from 2013.

The CEO of Homcart says, “Due to Dubai tourism, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of Chinese guests in hotels and they have been largely interested to view the attractions. When these Chinese went on leave due to the Chinese New Year, the number of tourists and visitors dropped massively. This impacted the sales in the Dubai market.”

The marketing and research team at HomCart reported “Nearly 80 million dollars were earned when 14,500 Chinese visited Dubai. These are general estimates, the exact figure on how much a single Chinese spent in Dubai is not known. Further research is still in progress.”

Now as the New Year celebrations are over, Chinese have started to return to Dubai. Among these include not just the tourists but also the large Chinese retailers that bring revenue to Dubai. Trading activities are slowly resuming. However, this pause has impacted the trade in Dubai markets significantly. It is expected that the gap will be covered with the festivals and trade shows that are yet to be conducted in Dubai. Sales in HomCart also went down during this time period.
