ENCINO, CA — Encino Hospital Medical Center Introduces Southern California’s First Geriatric Emergency Room (“Senior ER”) and Geriatric Inpatient Unit to Improve Care for Growing Senior Population.

WHAT:

Encino Hospital Medical Center (“EHMC”), located on Ventura Blvd., is hosting a pre-launch event to showcase the first Geriatric Emergency Room “Senior ER” and Geriatric Inpatient Unit in the region. The new program is designed to provide superior geriatric care to seniors (65+), from their initial Emergency Room (“ER”) experience to the time of discharge and post-discharge.

Since 2000, California’s population of persons 60 and older has grown rapidly. Between 1950 and 2000, the number of older adults in this State grew from 1.6 million to 4.7 million, an increase of 194 percent. This trend will continue as the number of people age 60 and over grows to 13.9 million by 2050, an increase of 128 percent from 2010.

The pre-launch event will bring together over 200 healthcare professionals and 12 San Fernando Valley Centenarians. Emergent Medical Associates Emergency Department “Senior ER” physicians, S+AGE® Geriatricians, City representatives including Councilmember Paul Koretz and EHMC Administration and staff will be available for live TV and radio interviews.
