Deputy Who Stood by During Parkland Shooting Arrested on Multiple Charges for His Inaction
According to CNN’s Jake Tapper, the Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson was arrested following the investigation over his actions during the Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School.
Peterson was the officer stationed to guard the school but waited outside in safety and listened while the shooting occurred. According to Tapper, the 14-month investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Peterson on Tuesday for seven counts of child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury.

Peterson’s inaction was only the final point of inaction from the Broward County Sheriff Department that lead to the Parkland shooting which left 17 people dead, including teachers and students. This subsequently led to a witch hunt of figures like Dana Loesch and the National Rifle Association and divided America for months.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel initially told the CNN town hall with Loesch that he would release Peterson’s body cam footage. However, when push came to shove, he suddenly withdrew the promise, claiming that doing so would reveal vital tactical footage which may muddy the investigation.
It was quickly assessed, however, that Peterson failed to do his duty and protect the students and staff within the school, thus leading to his arrest.
