After looking into this I have come to several easy conclusions.
1. Some people go to the wilderness to die and don’t want to be found.
2. Some are accidents. Fall into a gully or over a cliff, getting lost, etc.
3. Wild animals get you.
4. The rest are KIDNAPPINGS! Bad people living and stalking you on the trails. Confirmed after reading comments on these stories.
Somebody is kidnapping and/or drugging them. For sexual reasons, thrills, theft, murder, etc. Some are returned others are not. This is the most likely reason why so many people are disappearing on the most inexplicable storied ones.
It is DANGEROUS to hike or camp alone in popular areas. One way to mitigate it is to go very deep into the wilderness (criminals are lazy and opportunist), take several dogs (two would be my minimum) and go heavily armed and be alert.
I have confirmed all those reasons after studying several cases and news stories going back decades. Don’t believe this mystical alien bigfeet shiite.
Got a 60 mile long National Park on the South Texas coast. Zero people missing from it.
Also, zero trees on it, as it’s a beach and all.
Therefore, with no trees to hide behind, Bigfeets avoids the beach.
