Surprising Health Benefits of Silver

Background: Silver has been used extensively throughout recorded history for a variety of medical purposes.

Methods: A review of the literature in English was undertaken, primarily using PUBMED, to identify the
medical uses of silver before the clinical introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s.

Results: Silver has been used for at least six millennia to prevent microbial infections. It has been effective
against almost all organisms tested and has been used to treat numerous infections and noninfectious conditions, sometimes with striking success. Silver also has played an important role in the development of radiology and in improving wound healing.

Conclusion: Silver was the most important antimicrobial agent available before the introduction of antibiotics.. 

In addition to being the most reflective and conductive substance on the earth, silver is also antimicrobial and antibacterial. It was used for these purposes until antibiotics rose to prominence in the last century. Silver is also used in many medical applications

Silver had been used in medicine for centuries, touted as a cure-all for everything from tuberculosis and arthritis to herpes and cancer. Even today, many alternative practitioners believe that colloidal silver offers health benefits by “boosting” immune function and preventing or treating infections, both common and severe.

More recently, silver coatings are being placed on medical devices such as breathing tubes and catheters to help fight infections. It’s also being applied to artificial bones and scaffolding used to keep bones in place while they mend. Silver is found in bandages and ointments because it keeps bacteria at bay, allowing the body to heal faster.

Silver has also been shown to be effective against bacteria that are becoming resistant because of the overuse of chemical antibiotics. For example, a life-threatening Staph germ called MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), often referred to as a “superbug” and found in healthcare facilities, is resistant to almost all chemical antibiotics. To fight back, many facilities are employing silver-imbedded equipment including surgical tools, needles, stethoscopes, furniture, door handles, furniture, linens and even paper files.

Only during the past few years have scientist learned how silver works as a biocide. Silver ions can penetrate the cell walls of bacteria – without injuring mammalian cells – thus destroying the chemical and structural bonds essential for the bacteria’s survival and growth. Colloidal silver (a colloid consisting of silver particles suspended in liquid) and formulations containing silver salts were used by physicians in the early 20th century, but their use was largely discontinued in the 1940s when Big Pharma came into power.

During the plague, wealthier parents would give their children a silver spoon to suck on to protect them from the illness (resulting in the saying mentioned above), apparently with better results than those who did not have access to utensils made of the metal.

Prior to pasteurization, silver jugs were used to store milk to keep it from spoiling.

Silver as Sterilizers
Until now, experiments have confirmed that silver sterilizes almost all single cell germs on earth. The most convincing theory is that silver creates catalysis in the metabolism (digestion, breathing) of single cell germs making them powerless, and sterilizing germs as a result.

It is known that there are no germs that can live after being in contact with silver for over six minutes. How else does silver affect germs? In addition to preventing their metabolism, the electric load of silver ions released by silver in a metal is said to restrain the generative function of germs.”

Some people would even put silver coins in their drinks to preserve and enhance the liquids’ health benefits. The practice of using silver to preserve the health benefits of foods has been traced as far back as ancient Egypt.

Today silver’s medicinal uses have mostly been forgotten by western society.

Colloidal silver, a liquid created by using electricity to pull silver particles into water, can be used to heal wounds and prevent infection. It is apparently especially effective in preventing scarring when healing from burns. I have read that both NASA and the Russian space agency both use silver in the water treatment systems used aboard their space shuttles.

However, colloidal silver has no oxygen value, and drinking it may cause Argyria (blueing of the skin) due to its very high parts per million (ppm) of silver. Colloidal silver is not nano-sized, and measures 20 to 500ppm. The silver in colloidal silver does not remain in suspension, which is why it must be shaken prior to use.

At the 30-second mark you can see where we set the microscope to start viewing. You can see that the live blood cells are looking sluggish and stuck together, also known as Reuleaux.

At the 45 second mark, we added the one drop of APeX Water. You can see that some cells are so unhealthy that they are sticking as the APeX Water is added, but at the 1:17 mark you will see that the APeX Water has caused the unhealthy cells to cease to be viable.
