Lawton started a massive cloud seeding campaign just two weeks ago, and now everyone is surprised that Tornado season has started early with torrential rains.

Since March, city officials have been waiting for the board to approve their contract with a Texas company, Seeding Operations and Atmospheric Research. Now the company’s planes are ready to take to the skies in hopes that Southwest Oklahoma will get the slow soakers it desperately needs.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._Governor Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for 12 counties following Wednesday’s tornadoes, severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding.
The counties included in the governor’s declaration are: Alfalfa, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Cleveland, Dewey, Garfield, Grady, Grant, Major, McClain and Oklahoma.
Governor Fallin, along with state emergency management and local officials, will survey damage caused by tornadoes and flooding
