Hãng Apple có vẻ như không quan tâm lắm đến việc nâng cấp số “chấm” trên camera của mẫu điện thoại thông minh iPhone thế hệ tiếp theo. Thay vào đó, Apple sẽ tập trung vào việc nâng cấp hệ thống ống kính và nâng cao chất lượng hình ảnh.

Một số nguồn tin trước đó cho rằng camera của iPhone 6 có thể có độ phân giải lên tới 10MP với khẩu độ nhanh hơn F/1.8 (mẫu iPhone 5s hiện tại đang sở hữu ống kính có khẩu độ F/2.2), do đó nhiều khả năng khẩu độ sẽ được giữ nguyên.

Tin đồn gần đây nói rằng Apple sẽ sử dụng ống kính bằng nhựa để trang bị cho iPhone 6. Trong khi một số khác thì nói đến tính năng ổn định hình ảnh quang học (OIS) trên camera của iPhone 6, tuy nhiên, xem cách Apple áp dụng các thủ thuật phần mềm dựa trên con quay hồi chuyển thông minh cho iPhone 5s để tránh tính năng OIS, thì dường như Apple sẽ không thay đổi tư duy thiết kế này cho thế hệ iPhone tiếp theo.

Trong trường hợp Apple vẫn giữ camera độ phân giải 8MP cho iPhone 6, tương đương độ phân giải camera trên iPhone 4s, thì Apple sẽ đi ngược lại với xu hướng hiện tại của nhà sản xuất trong thời gian gần đây là luôn tìm kiếm độ phân giải cao hơn cho camera trên các smartphone thế hệ tiếp sau của họ.

Theo nhà phân tích Ming-Chi Kuo của công ty KGI Securities, các lô hàng cảm biến 13MP nhiều hơn tất cả các loại cảm biến khác, và dự kiến đến cuối năm nay sẽ đạt 65% tổng số thành phần có độ phân giải cao. Mức tăng của nhu cầu cảm biến này sự kiến tiếp tục tăng cao đến năm 2015. Ngài Ming-Chi Kuo cho biết thêm, Sony hiện chiếm 65,7% thị phần của cảm biến 13MP.
