USAID administrator Rajiv Shah announced he’s stepping down hours before the diplomatic deal with Cuba was announced. Shah had overseen the agency’s involvement in secret programs in Cuba.

Well, it’s not being reported, that Alan Gross, the guy released by Cuba yesterday, was a spy…
Gross was sent to Cuba under a $500,000 contract to work for USAID.
In addition to using Jewish missions to Cuba as a cover, Gross even asked fellow American Jewish travelers to smuggle electronic equipment into Cuba and then give it back to him at his hotel, the AP said.

He also came up with the idea for the International Finance Facility for Immunization to transform the global system of vaccine financing and worked to secure donor commitments of more than $5 billion for this facility. The World Health Organization estimates this initiative will save more than five million children’s lives through the next decade, and a New York Times article described the effort as “a clever way to reduce the burden of costly diseases now and save money in the future”.
