As 3i/Atlas continues its journey to the outer solar system, Earth has swung around in its orbit to get as close to 3i/Atlas as possible, and tonight the two are at their closest separation of 1.8 astronomical units. Based off of its trajectory, there is no risk of 3i/Atlas hitting Earth, but could other mysterious energetic effects influence our planet and perhaps even us? Geophysicist Stefan Burns reports.
