LISTEN: “You Raise Me Up…To More Than I Can Be” — Via the Wayfaring Gal (7/7/2024)

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. (2Cor 4:14)

Sitting in the lowest room now, as commanded by Jesus, I hear songs that remind me of many scriptures, as well as my life since becoming a Christian. The song below, “You Raise Me Up,” is one of those songs.

In the Bible, Jesus likens the way to becoming born again to a wedding:

Luke 14:7-11:

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, (Luke 14:7)
When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; (Luke 14:8)
And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. (Luke 14:9)
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. (Luke 14:10)
For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 14:11)

This is written of in the Old Testament as well:

Prov 25:6-7:

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: (Prov 25:6)
For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen. (Prov 25:7)

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isa 40:31)

Jesus is also called the Bridegroom and only the OBEDIENT are considered the bride/bride-to-be:

Matt 25:1-13:

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. (Matt 25:1)
And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. (Matt 25:2)
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: (Matt 25:3)
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (Matt 25:4)
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. (Matt 25:5)
And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. (Matt 25:6)
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. (Matt 25:7)
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. (Matt 25:8)
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. (Matt 25:9)
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. (Matt 25:10)
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. (Matt 25:11)
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. (Matt 25:12)
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Matt 25:13)

You Raise Me Up | Lucy & Martha Thomas | Lyrics:

There was a time in my life, before I considered myself a Christian, I would pray to God and ask for His help in my darkest hours; but have since learned to pray to my Lord and Saviour at all times; not just when I am down and my soul is oh-so-weary, but giving thanks every day for all my blessings.

1Thess 5:16-18:

Rejoice evermore. (1Thess 5:16)
Pray without ceasing. (1Thess 5:17)
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1Thess 5:18)

I cannot emphasize enough how much patience we need as we walk down this narrow way, sitting in the lowest room, and waiting for the revelation of Jesus Christ; who promises He will come to the diligent ones who search for the real truth…

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (Ps 27:14)

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. (Prov 13:12)

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Hab 2:3)

In your patience possess ye your souls. (Luke 21:19)

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (Rom 16:20)

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13)

And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: (Heb 6:11)

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. (Heb 10:37)

Lyrics

You Raise Me Up

When I am down and oh, my soul so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in silence
Until You come and sit awhile with me

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk in stormy seas
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up,
You raise me up
To walk on stormy seas

I am strong when I am on Your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on Your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

You raise me up; You raise me up
To more than I can be

Rev 22:20-21:

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Rev 22:20)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Rev 22:21)
