Climate fund proposal dismays developing nations – as COP29 presidency branded ‘one of the worst’

Ali Mohamed, speaking on behalf of more than 50 African nations, says a proposed $250bn target is “totally inadequate” and will lead to “unacceptable loss of life in Africa and around the world, and imperils the future of our world”.

An eleventh hour proposal from a UN climate summit to channel $250bn to developing nations has fallen far short of the $1.3trn they need to cope with climate change.
