The TRUTH about God’s Temples – Why They Were Used…And Why They are No Longer Necessary (KJV Truth)
Posted July 18, 2025 | End Times Watch | River Wilde
The Temple. Let us use the KJV of the Bible to be our information source, and let’s approach this topic of learning without prejudice, and be open to the truth’s that are taught about the temple…nothing more.
We will not seek to understand this topic with the intent to make our learning fit into a box of something that we have previously been taught. We desire the truth and will follow the scriptures wherever they lead us to discover the true teachings about the temple.
Let’s go back to the very beginning to try and understand the temples, and the role that they played in religious history. In the Old Testament (KJV), the purpose of the temple was deeply spiritual and symbolic. Here are the key purposes according to Scripture:
1. A Dwelling Place for God’s Presence
The temple was built to be a holy place where God’s presence dwelled among His people.
- 1 Kings 8:10-13 (KJV) – “The cloud filled the house of the Lord… for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord… I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.”
This mirrors how the tabernacle functioned in the wilderness (Exodus 25:8).
2. A Place for Sacrifices and Atonement
The temple was where the priests offered sacrifices for the sins of the people, pointing forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Christ.
- 2 Chronicles 7:12 – “I have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.”
- Leviticus 17:11 – “For it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”
The sacrificial system taught the seriousness of sin and the need for blood atonement.
WHY SACRIFICES WERE NECESSARY
Sin brings death—this is a foundational truth of Scripture.
- Ezekiel 18:20 (KJV) – “The soul that sinneth, it shall die…”
- Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death…”
But instead of destroying the sinner, God made a temporary system where a substitute could bear the punishment—an animal sacrifice.
THE BLOOD MAKES ATONEMENT
The shedding of blood was not symbolic—it was required.
- Leviticus 17:11 (KJV) –
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls…”
“Atonement” means to cover or reconcile. God allowed the blood of a spotless animal to temporarily cover the sins of the people.
All sacrifices had to be offered by a Levitical priest at the temple altar, following exact rituals God gave through Moses. The temple and the ordinance happening was to teach the people that something needed to be done to assist all mankind (sinners) to be able to one day live with God. We were not perfect, so an animal needed to be sacrificed in order for forgiveness to occur.
But the early temples, under the law of Moses, were to also teach about the upcoming sacrifice that would be the final, and ultimate sacrifice needed for repentance and salvation… Jesus Christ.
Pointing to Jesus Christ – The True and Final Temple
From Shadow to Substance: Christ Fulfilled the Old Covenant
The temple sacrifices were never meant to be permanent. They were shadows pointing to the ultimate and final sacrifice—Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.
Hebrews 10:4 – “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”
John 1:29 – “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Hebrews 9:12 – “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
Jesus Replaced the Temple – God Dwells Fully in Him
In the Old Testament, the temple was the center of worship, sacrifice, and God’s presence. But when Jesus came, He fulfilled and replaced the need for a physical temple. Here’s how:
1. Jesus Is the Temple
John 2:19–21 – “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up… But he spake of the temple of his body.”
Jesus was speaking of His death and resurrection. No longer would God’s presence be housed in a building—it now dwells fully in Christ.
Colossians 2:9 – “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
Jesus Ended the Sacrificial System
Hebrews 10:12 – “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.”
When Jesus died, the veil in the temple was torn in two, signifying the end of the Old Covenant system and the beginning of direct access to God through Him:
Matthew 27:50–51 – “Jesus… yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.”
Hebrews 8:13 – “A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.”
Believers Are Now God’s Temple
Jesus not only fulfilled the temple system—He made a way for His Spirit to live in us.
1 Corinthians 3:16 – “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
1 Corinthians 6:19 – “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…?”
There is no more need for priests, temples, or ordinances to approach God. Through Christ, we have direct, permanent access.
Hebrews 9:11 – “Christ being come an high priest… by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands…”
What About New Revelation and Modern Temples?
Many today claim that new revelations restore lost ordinances, priesthood authority, and the need for temples. But what does the Bible say?
The Gospel Cannot Be Changed or Added To
Paul warns against any addition to the gospel—even if it comes from an angel. God takes tampering with His message very seriously.
Galatians 1:6–9 (KJV)
“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
Paul strongly condemns any alteration of the gospel—even if it’s brought by an angel! He actually states it twice in the same teachings. This shows the seriousness of adding to the gospel.
Do Not Add to God’s Word
Revelation 22:18–19 – “If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues…”
The gospel doesn’t need restoration. It was never lost. It was never altered by God. The idea of restoring priesthoods, temples, or rituals as necessary for salvation is a contradiction to the finished work of Jesus Christ.
The Final Test: Seek the Truth from God
You don’t need to take my word—or any man’s word—for it. Take it to God in prayer.
John 16:13 – “When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.”
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read the Bible. Truth doesn’t need manipulation—it shines on its own. Jesus Christ is enough.
Summary of Truth from the KJV:
- Jesus fulfilled the law and temple system.
- There is no longer a need for buildings or ordinances to access God.
- The New Covenant is by grace through faith, not works, rituals, or priesthoods.
- The gospel is complete. It cannot be added to or altered.
- God now dwells in believers—not temples.
Cling to Christ alone. He is the temple, the priest, the sacrifice, and the Savior.
