Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone.

The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later.

The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today.

Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will post a link to the chapter that each passage is from, so that you can read further on your own.

Born of a Virgin

Isaiah 7:10-14

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!” 13 Then he said, “Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

The beginning of this passage shows us a conversation between God and Ahaz. God tells Ahaz that he can ask Him any question he wants; from Heaven to Hell God will answer anything.

What an amazing offer from the Creator of everything. I would have so many questions I would not know what to ask. Ahaz said he would not ask God anything. Ahaz was not being humble or modest. He was afraid of the truth. He wanted to stay in his realm of disbelief.

The Assyrians heavily influenced Ahaz and he did not have full faith in God. If Ahaz asked God any question he wanted, and God answered then Ahaz may be put in a position that he would have no option to believe. I find these verses very important as they proceed to verse 14 that prophesizes that Jesus will be born to a virgin. God tells Ahaz the prophecy as a sign. You will know God is real when the Son of God is born to a virgin.

How many of us are afraid to know the truth about something so we do not even ask? I know I have before, and there is a good chance I may find myself in that place again. Have you ever known a husband or wife that knew in their mind their spouse was cheating, but didn’t ask because then they would know for sure and would have to do something about it?

Sometimes we all choose blissful ignorance. Ahaz wanted to remain in his blissful state of ignorance. God does not let us off that easy. In the United States, ignorance of a law is not a defense for breaking the law. If you were speeding but you didn’t know the speed limit you are still getting a ticket. God works the same way. We are not excused for our ignorance.

If we were, then Jesus would not have given us the Great Commission of going to tell the world the Good News of Jesus as our Savior. He would have said, “listen guys, keep this quiet. It is better to be ignorant than to know and refuse.”

God wanted Ahaz to be awake and aware of the world as it really is, and that God is the one true God and everything Ahaz thought he believed was a lie.

God wants the same for us. God told Ahaz that Jesus would be born from a virgin. From my experience, this is the one prophecy of Jesus that most people are skeptical is real. My brother is one of these people, and there are many others.

Why are the other miraculous events such as the Great Flood, or resurrection considered possible, but virgin birth is not? Are we in denial?

Are we afraid to admit that if God can create a virgin birth then He really can do anything, and then we would have to believe or accept that He is God, the Creator and ruler of all? I believe the answer is yes. There is a reason these verses are put together.

We live in doubt and denial, and at times prefer ignorance. God is not afraid to reveal Himself to us as we have seen in this passage. Are we afraid of God revealing Himself to us?

Isaiah wrote about the virgin birth 600 years before Jesus was born, then Matthew wrote about the virgin birth that occurred. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy.

What makes this prophecy so much harder to believe? If you could ask God any question, would you? Would you be afraid of the answer? If so, why? Would you ask Him how the virgin birth happened?

I’ve never noticed there’s anything different about the virgin birth than man not believing many doctrines of the faith. Look at what goes on here, day in and day out. You see a lot more rapture and Trinity scoffers, than virgin birth scoffers, or a mountain of false, legalistic doctrines of devils, denying a likewise mountain of scripture. Even among so-called Christians, those not born again of the Holy Spirit do not understand the things of God, but by fragments they can reconcile with their carnal viewpoints and that self that is really on the throne of their lives, their private religiosity not of Christ. I have many times seen such people try and reconcile evolution with creation, that don’t believe in the power of God to instantaneously create, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, though they would not seem to dispute many instantaneous miracles of the Lord Jesus, or perhaps just keep a lid on that? But you’ve heard things, too, that try to explain away anything and everything, the blood turned to water in Egypt red tide, the flood a local event they can make more sense of, a Jesus that is deity lite, another creature, as if just a baptism that stuck better between themselves and Christ, that is, a Christ created in Bethlehem or even at baptism and not the Old Testament, Creator Lord from eternity, etc. I’ve not noticed a single sound doctrine that is not attacked, by not only the unbelieving world, but purported Christians, that simply don’t seem to believe the Bible.

Put it this way, I’ve never known a true Christian that disputes the virgin birth. This is even a doctrine in the charter of most church congregations, a fundamental belief, based on clear, unambiguous scripture, of both Protestants and Catholics. Anybody who doesn’t believe in the virgin birth is even making a most plain scripture doctrine, one can’t morph away, a lie and God a liar. I wouldn’t call such a person a Christian, but, then again, I don’t believe in this concept of your non-spiritual, carnal Christian, either, that is touted as one with zero evidence of the Spirit or any progressive sanctification of the Spirit evident, and because that variety carnal Christian is neither in scripture, the whole gospel saying something quite different of evildoers, practicing unrepentant sinners, paying lip service to God out of one side of their mouths, but denying His word out of the other. Yet, you hear taught of these “skin of the teeth” so-called Christians, whose works all get burned up, and they don’t, therefore, get a yoyo in heaven? The world is full of such Christians who daily have no time for God, nor really believe in virgin births and the like, or they would have real fear of our omnipotent God and Creator the Lord Jesus is, would think twice about calling Him a liar in anything whatsoever He said, or any likewise inspired scripture of the Word of God. If the Christian faith were simply, “Alright. I’ll say I believe in Jesus, then. Now, drinks a around at the bar! Wonder who Mary was really fooling around with?”, the New Testament would be a pamphlet and God would be very verbose, as well as deceptive. Whoever their god, it is not the God of the Bible, whatever their faith not the faith of the Bible nor any real trust in God.

Scripture doesn’t say the pamphlet is enough:

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Luke 6:46 Why do you call me Lord but don’t do what I tell you?

Titus 1:16 They claim to know God, but they deny him by what they do. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit to do anything good.

Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

1 John 3:6 Those who live in Christ don’t go on sinning. Those who go on sinning haven’t seen or known Christ.

1 John 3:8-10 The person who practices sin belongs to the evil one, because the Devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason that the Son of God was revealed was to destroy what the Devil has been doing. No one who has been born from God practices sin, because God’s seed abides in him. Indeed, he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born from God. This is how God’s children and the Devil’s children are distinguished. No person who fails to practice righteousness and to love his brother is from God.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Revelation 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Actually, if you can get past this Genesis verse, where could there be a problem with anything else, if you believe God?

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

That seems quite the job, creating the vast universe and all life. So why couldn’t you make a virgin pregnant, if you can create a man and a woman, as well as the globe, teeming with life, you set them on? Maybe you know “Christians” who haven’t gotten past the first verse of scripture?

The great doctrines of the faith are like the different keystones in the main arches of a renaissance cathedral…pull out any one of them, and the whole house caves in…if you don’t believe in the virgin birth, then Jesus’ work on the cross is inadequate to save.

If it wasn’t for the virgin birth then there was no chance for anyone to die sin free. Had Jesus been passed through the seed of man, He would have been born a sinner and thus a corrupt pointless savior.

This is why Satan tried to corrupt human DNA in an attempt to corrupt the savior through His mother. They knew a savior had no other option than be born of a virgin. Had God not destroyed the world then the Mary would have no longer been made in the image of God. I suspect this is how the mark of the beast is able to condemn a person to hell before they even die. It will alter the persons DNA and they will lose their status of being made in the image of God. Since no man could ever be born sin free, God became that man, that sacrifice.

And why was it important that Christ be born of a virgin?

For God the Father to be the actual father of Jesus Christ, God the Father had to impregnate Mary with His Holy Seed i.e. the Holy Spirit. Which He did.

The fact that Mary had slept with no man and yet became pregnant is proof the fetus that grew in Mary was from above.

Understand, Mary was not converted and was not given the Holy spirit until it was given to the 120 on the day of Pentecost.

There must be no question as to who fathered Jesus Christ.

And then the Works Christ did and the fact He fulfilled to perfection and to the split second all of the prophecy proving He IS the Savior — witnesses to the fact — Jesus Christ IS THE First Born Son of God the Father.

Great comments guys. This may be the first time Truthseeker and I fully agree on something. The virgin birth is completely necessary for Jesus to be who He was, otherwise He would have been just another man that would have to have died for His own sins rather than ours. Anonymous, there are, was, and will always be skeptics of every aspect of scripture. I believe that the Satan worshippers high up and from long ago identified specifics areas to target more than others in order to deceive and confuse people. For example, Jerusalem and many other cities and countries exist today wit relics from 2000+ years ago, so it would be ridiculous to argue that there was no Babylonian Empire or Assyrian Empire. It is almost impossible to argue that Jesus didn’t really exist in some form especially when the other major religions acknowledge He existed. Therefore, they have to confuse people beyond that point by mocking the “virgin birth”. Even the plagues in Egypt were mimicked by the mystics of that time (some were at least), but there is no mimicking virgin birth. They have put doubt in people’s heads over the centuries of that being possible that it is still in question today. There are several other miracles in scripture that seem to be attacked more than others, and I see it as a pattern. Obviously, there is no real proof of any of this but it is my opinion on the matter. But yes, I agree that if you do not believe in virgin birth, then you really cannot call yourself Christian. Anything other than virgin birth and Jesus just becomes a man like you and me.

seeker I have found in over 50 years of study and prayer – the Word of God is very very deep, every thing is interconnected and perfectly and precisely joined one to another and everything God the Father and Jesus Christ did or will do is logical and was planned before creation.

Every major event in God’s plan of salvation occurs on the Sabbath or on one of the 7 Holy Feasts of God and God does not deviate from His Plan nor the way it is carried out: “what Has been will be”.

The spiritual can be understood logically by the physical, which is the basis of my comment above.

I doubt you will agree with the majority of what I write on BIN, I am 180 degrees from so called christianity and have been for 50 years.
