Did you know that smelling and viewing flowers have actually been shown to elevate your mood?

True, you can’t smell a flower through the internet–but these flowers are sure to fascinate you anyway.

We’ve looked high and low and found the most beautiful and rare flowers from around the world. Read on to learn more!

The Most Beautiful Rare Flowers from Around the World

These flowers have been selected from all over the planet for their beauty, unique qualities, and rareness. Many of these blooms can only be found in one or two locations worldwide.

1. White Lotus

The white lotus is native to Southeast Asia and parts of East Africa. Its pure white flower blooms on top of a lilypad, which creates a stark contrast between the dark water and vibrant blooms.

The white lotus has been gaining in popularity as yoga and Eastern spirituality has become more widely known in the West. In Buddhism, the lotus can have different meanings depending on the color. The white lotus represents a state of spiritual perfection.

The white lotus is a popular home pond plant. The lily pads are beneficial to the pond ecosystem and are a conversation piece.

2. Middlemist Red

The Middlemist Red’s bold lipstick color and delicate layered leaves make this flower instantly recognizable. Despite its name, this flower has a light saturated pink hue.

Originally imported from China to the UK, these are some of the rarest flowers in the world. They don’t occur naturally and are only found in curated greenhouse locations.

These greenhouse locations are in either New Zealand or the UK. Many people wait in line just to get a glimpse of this rare bloom.

3. Lisianthus or Texas Bluebell

This flower has had a resurgence as a unique wedding flower. Whether it’s the focus of the bouquet or a coordinating flower, the pale blue color is an elegant choice for any wedding. The lisianthus blooms in late summer and early fall.

The lisianthus grows predominantly in the southern United States and Mexico–hence the nickname the Texas Bluebell. It is drought resistant and has a bell-like shape to its petals. These flowers used to grow wild but now are mostly seen in ornate landscaping.

Despite the erroneous reputation of being hard to grow, these flowers can add a nice accent to a garden with proper care and maintenance. Their distinctive shape also lends itself to florist logo ideas.

4. Lady’s Slipper Orchid

The lady’s slipper orchid is one of the most sought-after flowers for collectors. While there are many varieties of orchids that are rare and beautiful, such as the ghost orchid, none of them have the reputation of the lady’s slipper orchid.

The rarest of this variety is the lady’s slipper orchid in the yellow and purple variety. This flower is native to the UK and other parts of Europe.

When adding a lady’s slipper orchid to your garden, be sure to go through a nursery that doesn’t endanger these orchids by taking them from the wild.

5. Red Hydrangea

This is another flower where the variety of the flower makes a difference in its rarity and value. Hydrangeas are typically seen in blues and purples. Red hydrangeas are rarer because of the conditions in which they grow.

Hydrangeas gain color by the pH or acid level of the soil in which they are grown. Acidic soils produce the commonly seen blue flowers, and basic soils produce the brilliant red hues.

Hydrangeas are known for their intricate texture that seems to made up of tiny flowers. Red hydrangeas are especially striking and a great addition to any landscape.

6. Clerodendrum

Also known as a Harlequin Gloryblower, these tropical bushes are colorful and unusual. In some cases, they can grow up to twelve feet.

They have pink flowers, sometimes with white or blue centers. These bushes grow in the southern part of the US and are seen mostly in tropical planned landscapes.

7. Bird of Paradise

Birds of paradise are some of the most striking and recognizable rare flowers in the world. Even people who haven’t seen these flowers in person can probably describe what the bloom of this flower looks like.

The blooms have a beak-like shape with gorgeous orange fans that sprout from the bloom. This flower is native to South Africa but has been imported to other tropical areas.

Typically these flowers bloom from September to May. When the flowers are not in bloom the plant has large, bright green leaves and stems.

8. Chocolate Cosmos

Believe it or not, the name of this flower doesn’t simply refer to their dark, rich auburn color. This flower actually smells like chocolate when it blooms.

It is native to Mexico, but unfortunately this flower has been eradicated from the wild. Scientists have managed to clone the flower using cutting-edge technology.

The color of the chocolate cosmos is a maroon color similar to a chocolate diamond. The flower itself resembles a wildflower or a daisy in shape.

9. Parrot’s Beak

Like the bird of paradise, the parrot’s beak is also named for its shape and resemblance to a bird.

Like the chocolate cosmos, this flower is rare to the point of almost being extinct. It is native to the Canary Islands and the flower’s only pollinator has long since gone extinct.

The flower has brilliant orange and red flowers that are similar to an orchid. They only bloom under intense sunlight.

10. Gibraltar Campion

If you hope to catch a glimpse of this flower, you’ll have to catch a plane to Gibraltar. It was once thought to be eradicated, but recently instances of this flower have been found in Gibraltar.

The flowers are either purple or white and most closely resemble a daisy. They emit a subtle but pleasant scent.
