RPK:  I remember 25 years ago, when I was in Los Angeles, and already the downtown was in pretty bad shape… now the urban decay seems to have become much more widespread. 

New York City is heading in the same direction… imagine a city that huge looking like how Los Angeles is right now… and both could easily get much much worse!

Los Angeles is considered a “sanctuary city,” a term that is not legally defined but generally refers to a community with policies that discourage local law enforcement from reporting the immigration status of individuals unless it involves investigation of a serious crime. The sanctuary city policy in Los Angeles was initiated in 1979, preventing the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) from inquiring about the immigration status of arrestees. In 2023, the Los Angeles City Council voted to make LA an official sanctuary city, prohibiting city resources from being used for any federal immigration enforcement. This policy aims to protect the rights and well-being of all residents, regardless of their immigration status. Other cities and school districts within Los Angeles County have also adopted similar policies to shield residents from federal immigration authorities.
